There is not a lot that I can really say that has not already been said. I am going to say it like the man who was instrumental in introducing David Bowie (Rodney Bingenheimer) to American audiences would say it. “Bowie is godhead!” Rodney Bingenheimer, through his show on KROQ (Rodney on the Roq) in Los Angeles, introduced me to the depth, width, and breath of David Bowie.

Growing up in Los Angeles in the early 1980’s, my knowledge of Bowie extended to his radio single “Let’s Dance” and “Blue Jean.” Then there is the missing link. I had been introduced to Joan Jett. In interviews she talked about her previous band the Runaways and Rodney’s early 1970’s club, Rodney’s English Disco.

I was in love. In love with a scene that I had been too young to experience. In love with The Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs, and Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps). In turn, listening to Bowie introduced me to the Stooges, Alice Cooper, T.Rex, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and the Velvet Underground, The Sweet, and Silverhead.

He opened strange doors that we’ll never close again. Bowie is Godhead!
